CNC RFQ Checklist for Faster Quote Review

Use this checklist before sending a CNC machining RFQ to reduce supplier questions, compare quotes more fairly, and receive clearer feedback on cost, lead time, quality, and export shipment.

Buyer RFQ checklist

Item What to prepare Why it matters
CAD file STEP, X_T, IGS, DXF, STL, or native CAD if available. STEP plus PDF is usually best for CNC quote review.
2D drawing Critical dimensions, tolerances, threads, GD&T, surface finish, and notes. Use PDF so suppliers can see what is critical.
Material Exact grade such as 6061-T6, 7075, 304, 316, Ti-6Al-4V, POM, or PEEK. Avoid only saying aluminum or stainless when grade matters.
Quantity Prototype, pilot run, first batch, repeat batch, or annual volume. Quote price changes strongly with setup and batch size.
Finish As-machined, anodizing, bead blast, plating, passivation, polishing, or coating. Confirm cosmetic surfaces and masking requirements.
Inspection Critical dimensions, report format, CMM, material certificate, photos, or third-party inspection. Confirm at RFQ stage so cost and lead time are realistic.
Shipping Destination country, courier, air, sea, or DDP/DDU preference. Landed cost matters more than unit price alone.

Use it before supplier comparison

Two CNC quotes are difficult to compare if one supplier assumes standard tolerance, another assumes tight tolerance, and the finish or inspection scope is unclear. A complete RFQ helps CNC Precision Tech match the part to a suitable supplier route and explain quote differences more clearly.

Short version: CAD + PDF + material + quantity + finish + tolerance + destination is the fastest path to useful quote feedback.

FAQ

What files should I send for a CNC RFQ?

Send STEP, X_T, IGS, or STL files when available, plus a 2D PDF drawing for critical tolerances, threads, finishes, and inspection notes.

Can I request a quote with only a sample photo?

A sample photo can start the discussion, but accurate quoting usually requires dimensions, material, quantity, finish, and ideally a CAD file or 2D drawing.

Why does the checklist improve quote speed?

It reduces back-and-forth by clarifying material, quantity, tolerance, finish, inspection, and shipping details before supplier review.

Start a buyer-ready RFQ

Send drawings for supplier matching and quote feedback.

STEP, PDF, material, quantity, finish, tolerance, inspection needs, and shipping destination are enough to start. A sketch or sample photo can start early discussion.
